Top 10 Reasons to get a Massage

  • 1. Massage helps you relax in all kinds of ways: muscle tension is reduced and muscle tone is improved. It can help you sleep better. A massage slows your heart rate and reduces blood pressure.
  • 2. Massage is healthy. It flushes the body. It stimulates the lymph system which flushes the body of toxins and impurities. Blood circulation is stimulated which increases oxygen and flow of nutrients to skin, muscles, and organs. Extra blood and oxygen helps you recover from injury more quickly and reduces pain. A massage will boost your immune system. For women, PMS is reduced.
  • 3.  Massage helps put muscles and bones back into alignment which means better posture and better health.
  • 4.  Massage can help you learn a new language and you can teach your masseuse your language (most masseuses at least a few words in English and some are very good). I ask them how they learned and a few might have taken some English in school but most learned it on the job as they chatted with their clients. I’ve learned a lot of basic Thai, Khmer, and Vietnamese from my masseuses. It usually starts with learning a few body part names. I love learning new languages and this is one unique way of doing it. It makes the massage more fun for me and it usually impresses the masseuse that a foreigner would even attempt to learn their language. Mind you, in some cases, if you know a bit too much of their language, they assume you learned it from your Thai or Khmer girlfriend. I say I learn from talking to masseuses and from the internet (Youtube lessons).
  • 5. Your money might be helping your masseuse support a family. Often, a big part of their earnings are sent to support children or ailing parents.
  • 6. Massage is a cheap, safe, and legitimate way to get touch from another human being without any obligations.
  • 7. If you’re a shy guy, massage can help you build confidence with women (I was painfully shy both physically and socially and associating with masseuses has made me much less embarrassed about undressing and about talking with them).
  • 8.  Make new friends! Many masseuses that I have visited repeatedly over the years have become good friends and it’s always fun to reconnect. And sometimes, friends leads to relationships! Massage is a stress-free way of meeting women and while you’re getting your massage and chatting, sometimes love develops! It happens!
  • 9.  Cool off! Get out of the tropical heat and lie down in air-conditioned comfort or at the very least, a room with a fan.
  • 10. It just plain feels great! Is there any better reason? When you finish your massage, you’ll float out onto the street with a smile on your face. Endorphins (serotonin and dopamine) will be flowing through your body and you’ll experience a mild euphoria.

  1. Hi! I massage a lot and now I’m beingning to get slight pain in my wrists. I fear I may be experiencing the first signs of carpal tunnel..IDK..I plan on going to massage school to start my career, but I don’t want to injure do I massage properly to keep from developing carpal tunnel?? Info would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

    1. Hi Ramin. I have to admit I’m not an expert on giving massages, I like GETTING them! :)
I know that giving massages is a tough job and if you are already having pains, maybe this isn’t the best career choice. Your best bet is to talk to a registered Massage Therapist, someone who has gone through a proper training. He or she will undoubtedly know better than me how to take care of pains and how to avoid further injury!
